Sneak Peek WIP - Mountain Chickadee

Happy Sunday :)
With all the obsessing over the birds in my area lately, I knew it would eventually come out in my work somehow....here's a peek at one I'm working on at the moment. This little chickadee still needs eyes, some more coloring, and some embroidered details, but I think he's coming along nicely. This is the first of a series that will be going on Ebay.

Wishing everyone a creative and happy week!

More Backyard Adventure Photos

Time for another installment of Janine's backyard! These were all taken within the last week or so:

Sunset
One of the prettiest sunsets I've ever seen...it looked like a painting.

Female Cardinal
Female Cardinal

Male Cardinal
Male Cardinal...there are so many cardinals in my area but they are SO quick, I can never seem to get a really nice photo. I'm ok with these, though :)
Mourning Dove
Mourning Dove...now these guys are a lot more relaxed than the Cardinals. They just hang out on my back fence and watch me watching them :)
The same Dove a minute later, just after self-grooming and a ruffling of the feathers. It's amazing how they can make themselves look so much bigger than they really are!

That's it for now...the kid and I are attempting to grow some veggies, so I may post pics of that later on. I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Nature Reserve Photos - Eagle, Alligator, Dragonfly

Apparently I didn't get quite enough picture-taking yesterday morning...I went back to the Marshall Hampton Nature Reserve yesterday afternoon. I only planned on staying for a little while but it turned into two hours! I took a different trail this time; one that winds around a lake:

Lake trail
See the lake on the left? This trail goes all the way around it. I love this place!

Alligator
"Hi there. I'm going to eat you if you don't get that camera out of my face." This alligator had such a weird ball-looking thing at the end of his nose! But I think his eyes freaked me out the most ::shudder::

Dragonfly
Pretty little dragonfly :)

Wild blackberries
Yummy wild berries...yes I know they were yummy because I ate a couple after checking them for spiders and stuff :)

Black vultures
Black vultures...they look like old men with their wrinkly necks!

Eagle in tree
My favorite photo of the day...I've never been able to get a good shot of an eagle but he was just chilling out at the top of the tree posing for me :)

Foggy Morning Visitors

Yes, it's another "Foggy Morning in Janine's Yard" post...are you excited? I'll pretend that you are :) This time I caught some little visitors! Plus I found some kind of seed pods around the back fence with visitors of their own...I've never seen such brightly colored bugs.
These were all taken over the past two mornings...I pulled an all-niter last night working on orders so I'm going to leave you with the photos and get some sleep ~.~

Best Monday Ever & New Felty Stuff

I'm usuallly not a "Happy Monday" type of person, but today is different. It definitely made up for the ridiculous Mr. Bean-type of weekend I had.
I got some new items finished for my shop over the weekend, and when I got to work this morning, I found out that one of those items had made it to Etsy's front page!

Holy cow I had pretty much given up hope on ever doing that. It was picked by Admin (wow) and this little needle felted nest pin was up there at 6 a.m. this morning....right about the time I was hitting the snooze button on my alarm clock :)

Here's a photo of some other items I finished this weekend for the shop...hand-painted mini terra cotta pots with needle felted pincushions and steel pearlized pins that I had fun dressing up with glass flowers. These are really fun to make, they combine lots of crafty things that I enjoy (painting, needle felting, beading) all in a little 2-inch tall project.

If you'd like to see the whole Front Page treasury mentioned above, you can click here to see it on Craftcult.

Yep, this is the best Monday I've had in a while :o)

October Handmade Challenge - Birds

If you haven't heard of the Handmade Challenge, you should check it out! It's so neat to know that people from all parts of the world are creating something with the same theme in mind, since it is required to make something new just for the month's challenge (submitting something you've previously made kinda takes away from the whole idea). This month's challenge theme was birds, and here's my submission...a crocheted, stuffed mini-pillow with a needle felted bird and branch silhouette. The pillow is about 5 inches long and 3 inches high.

Another Costume Kid

I've been busy today!

The fourth in the Costume Kids series is a 3-inch little girl dressed as a bluebird, and she comes with her own nest. She's up right now looking for a new home; wish her luck!
